This bizarre image on the LE THERMOGENE (IMPRIMERIE MARCI) poster – a green clown-like figure holding a medicine impregnated cotton to his chest while breathing fire – has been in constant use since at least 1907.
Of all the elegantly beautiful images created by Cappiello, why is this the image still in use today? Apparently we prefer bizarre to elegance.
This large poster was printed by J-E. Goossens of Lille and Paris. For full color illustration see Rennert: POSTERS OF LEONETTO CAPPIELLO, plate 218, page 250.
